Squid

Here's a squid game.

Build-a-Squid - Build your own squid, name it, and release it into the ocean. You can drag it around and see what it does. The right side tells you what it's been doing. The ones I made are called dO+1, M00, and rico. :) Search them up!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Merry Christmas! Just unwrapped a bunch of presents, and I am feeling very happy.

Here's a festive little X-mas game. Deliver presents to houses with your new rocket spaceship, and avoid Rudolph, who's jealous of your upgraded sleigh.
http://www.portlandstudios.com/santa/
My score: 3850

I got a nice new comfy sweater, which I seriously need since all of my old ones don't fit anymore. It came with a scarf, so now I'm all ready for some snow! (Once I get some mittens) I also got one of those 365 page-a-day calendars. Its called "Planet Earth" and has some pretty awesome pictures and trivia facts on it. I've been wanting one ever since last year, when one of my friends got a vocabulary one. I'm planning on taking notes of my day on the back of each sheet so next year I'll be like, oh, I did this on this day. Also got a few other things, like a new cell phone, since I sort of lost my old one. >_> Go Christmas!

My gift list is almost done. Some last-minute after X-mas shopping will finish it up. If you haven't given anyone anything for the holidays, shame on you! What happened to the gift of giving? :O

Well, my friend got me a tarot card deck, so I'm reading about all of them. :D Also, happy Hanukkah, since I didn't post the beginning of it on my blog a few days ago. Anyway, comments about your holiday would be appreciated.

Be happy and hope for snow! (For those of you who live in places which rarely snow.)

Happy Holidays! (Now my phone greets me with that every time I open up the main screen. :D)

Frost Bite 2

Wahoo! Finals are over!

Frost Bite 2 - The sequel to Frost Bite. Nitrome is uploading games really fast again. For those of you who haven't played Frost Bite, you are a climber with a hook. You climb mountains in a snuggly snowsuit. Your hook helps you reach high places and get the monsters out of the way. There are boss levels now, and your hook is faster, but shorter. You walk really slow on slopes. Each time you finish a mountain, you move on to a higher mountain. Most mountains also have caves. You collect ice-pops(even though its already freezing) for more points.
You have 4 lives, and a health bar for each one, which you can replenish by collecting hearts.

Hello! More Links.

Hello, haven't been on for a while. The finals are making everyone so busy! Anyway, a few links I didn't have time to post:

The Majesty of the Colors - Reminds me of "I Wish I Were the Moon". It's pixeled, and you're a monster with a tentacle that lives under the ocean. Little people come around and you can grab things or people and depending on what you do, they'll love you or fight you.

Meeblings - Kind of like Lemmings. All kinds of meeblings appear and each can do a different thing. Click on one to activate its power so that they get to the "Way Out" sign.

Downhill Bowling - Extreme Bowling.

Fat Cat - Nitrome, new game! A fat cat with his Burping power and his guardian owl, who pretty much does everything. :3 Cute. Get through the level by shooting all flying monsters and blasting wall with your uber burping power.

Also, powder game has new additions!
bomb - explodes when it touches almost anything
laser - shoots out lasers. (Try firework lasers. :D)(And user your laser power with player)

http://www.nitrome.com/games/toxic2 - Toxic II is out!
http://playauditorium.com/ - A game with sound, where you bounce streams of light onto bars that light up and make a tune. Very pretty. @_@
http://jayisgames.com/games/ifiction/game/violet - Violet, a new interactive fiction game.

Flipside

http://www.nitrome.com/games/flipside/ - A cool new Nitrome game! Lily posted about it already, so check her blog for more info. Its a racing game where you can jump and flip. You can also race against others at the computer or against the computer. Cool graphics/animation. :D

Candy Glass :D

Yay! We have a new blog! Laurapoet and I decided to make a blog where we post a picture every day. We got the idea from another blog called 3191 "a year of evenings", in which 2 people who live 3191 miles apart take a picture every evening and posts it, to see if their lives are all that different.

Anyway, be sure to check our new blog every day!

Incredibots

I found this awesome game called Incredibots. You make machines and or robots and try to do tasks with them. There's even a sandbox mode where you just build and see what you make. Its one of those games where it seems like you can build anything. One of my favorite parts was the fact that you can move things with the keyboard keys. I made a tractor that could drive, and the shovel could rotate, and the end of it would open and close when I pressed the right key. It even has a tutorial for all of you anti-instruction people.

Incredibots - Try it!

Games

Ok, a few fun games.

Bomba - New Nitrome game! Its called Bomba. Basically, you control yourself with the cursor and press space to freeze the game. Don't touch the walls and collect bomb power-ups to get rid of obstacles.

Hanna in a Choppa - Really fun! You can do a bunch with this one. Use a helicopter to do a whole variety of things. Bake a cake or herd sheep, and then do a bunch of achievements. Cute, simple graphics.

Lucromancy

Some nice short games I found. These are all short, pixelized, and storylike, and by the same person.

I Wish I Were The Moon - Take snapshots of things and move them around to change the story. There are 5 endings. :)

Heartbroken - Cut the strings(of love!) between weak relationships. I found 3 endings, but Im not sure if there are any more.

StoryTeller - Tell the story by moving the people around in the panels. It might be just me, but this link won't work on my Internet Explorer browser, but works on Firefox.

All these are from
http://www.ludomancy.com/blog. (Be sure to try 3 trials too!)

Also, powder game has a new BG thing. It makes everything bigger and toon-ish. So basically, it doesnt sprinkle anymore, it gushes.

Enjoy!

Tag Galaxy

Here's a really cool photo search we were introduced to in class.

Tag Galaxy - Type in a word to search up photos with. If its a broad subject, several planets with different words branching from the word you typed in will appear. Now click a planet with the word you want to use. If it appears with more planets, keep clicking. Otherwise, you should see a globe of pictures. Drag around and spin the planet to browse through. Click a pic for a closer look. Click it again for a description. And click once more to go to the link. All these pictures come from Flickr.

Really amazing search engine. Try it!

Japanese Estimation Game

Nobody seems to know the actual name of this game, since its in Japanese, but someone said it translated to something like "Tight Area". First, it gives you a map of Japan, and a chart of blank pixels on the right. You roll your mouse over all the areas in Japan, and click on some. This pixelized area will fill the chart. You can keep adding more areas to the chart, and try to get as close to the red square as possible, but make sure not to go over. You pass onto the next level if the pixels stop somewhere in between the green and red squares. There are ten levels in all, and if you go over, you have to start from the beginning again.

Link: http://www.nekogames.jp/mt/2008/06/post_23.html

The instructions are in japanese, but all you need to know is in the above paragraph.

My highest score was 13770. :/ On my fourth try. I made the mistake of clicking the giant area up at the top on my first try, and went way past the red square.

I noticed that I've been posting a lot of links this month. @_@
And the titles for all my posts arent very creative. But I'm not going to spend three minutes thinking up a title for every single one of my posts, because I could be using that time to surf the web to come up with more links to post. :)

Well, enjoy!

Conceptis Puzzles

Wow. Here's a link to Conceptis Puzzles. Basically, its a site filled with puzzles, except they arent crosswords or mazes, they're pixels(Pic-A-Pix). I usually dont like puzzle sites because they're all the same, but you must try this one out! They have pixel puzzles, battleship, sudoku, slitherlink, kakuro, hitori, and hashi(not that I recognise anything after sudoku).

The special thing about the Pixel puzzles are that you end up with a small pixel picture if you get it right. There are many of these puzzles, except each has a different way of getting these pictures. There are also different difficulty levels. They vary from mega-big, many colors, 2 colors, and to the most basic, the black & white colors. Some have a combination of them too.

Pixel Puzzles - A link to all the types of pixel puzzles - Pic-A-Pix, Fill-A-Pix, Link-A-Pix, Maze-A-Pix, and Dot-A-Pix.

The pixel puzzles are HIGHLY confusing if you dont read the instructions, or at least the links I'm about to give you.

Tutorial - For those of you who don't like to read instructions, this is a video tutorial they have on their site. It is very helpful, although long. But since its so long, it covers most situations.

Rules - Self Explanatory. This isn't long at all, since its split into which puzzles you are doing.

Tips - Tips on doing the puzzles. (Try the bigger numbers first!)

Techniques - A step-by-step guide on the strategy for doing the pixel puzzles. Its like the video tutorial, but in writing and picture format. :)

Interactive - What you can do in the puzzle, and helpful things to know.

There. At the least, use the links for the tutorial and rules.

Now then, even after that, its sometimes still confusing. Also, the solution to the first 6 pixel puzzles are on the picture-link. Not all of them show the solution. For the ones that don't, you have to register and go to My Conceptis to see the puzzles. They make a new one every several days or so(6?). Anyway, here's a bunch of stuff I found out from playing.
  • If you click on the marking tool, and want to go back to the norml filling tool, click the marking tool again.
  • The numbers on the side can be clicked on so that they turn white or black. (Not sure if it work for puzzles other than Pic-A-Pix at the moment)
  • When the numbers double or triple up on the sides of the grid, it means that there are 2-3 seperate groups of blocks, depnding on how many numbers are there. For example, if the numbers 2,2,4 were on the side, that means that row or column has OO OO OOOO (pretend these are blocks) somewhere in there. Although the spacing might be different, the groups will always stay together, and there will be at least one empty block between them. (Pic-A-Pix)
  • The numbers on the side tell you how many filled blocks are in that row or column. Multiple numbers mean -refer to above-. (Pic-A-Pix)
  • These pixel puzzles require no math or english. According to the description, these puzzles improve logic and cognitive thinking.
  • You can do these puzzles on the computer(preferable), or printed out.

Ok. That's all for now!

I found a cute film just now. I tried looking for other stuff, but I didn't find much. This post will be a bit short. :) But I'll edit it if I find something similar.

House?

Well, I found this fun little link, so here it is.

http://www.drawahouse.com - Draw a house and answer 10 questions for it to find a summary of your personality. Although the summary isn't always accurate, its still fun to read. I've seen the whole draw-something-to-find-out-your-personality thing, but this website is completely based on it. Once you make one, you can make a street so that your friends can add their houses onto the same street. Here's mine. (And I used a tablet, in case any of you were wondering how I got the mouse to actually scribble.)

I also made a street, so if you want to add a house to it, click here.

:) Have fun drawing!

Game Links

:D I am really happy! I hope you know whales are mammals...
Sorry, that was a random question. ^^
Anyway, I found a few interesting games, so here they are:

Z-Rox - Basically, you look at this line. And you try to figure out what word or letter it's scanning. You'll see what I mean if you try it.

Hoshi Saga - You have to try this series of games. 100 levels in all. Find the star. Make sure to think outside of the box though. A row or column of levels unlocks another level. There are about 5-6 slightly inappropriate levels here though. Most of these levels are interactive, and its fun to experiment. :) Each game gets better.
Hoshi Saga 2
Hoshi Saga 3

Yo-Yo? - Swing the ball around and try to click it. It changes colors everytime you click. :)

Microbe Kombat - Play as bacteria, and eat stuff to grow bigger. Then use your special powers to split apart, speed up, or blow up some of your allies(split up pieces of you).

Oh come on, I had to have told you about Vectorpark! It is one of the awesomest places to visit that has interactive toys. Feed the Head, Spider, and Acrobots are a must! Try them all! Click, drag, wait, interact! (This six-legged dog comes if you wait a little in Spider. It is just adorable! Jump by holding the click button, and jump higher if you hold longer. Try jumping when under the dog's foot. :)

Enjoy! :)

Dog House

Nitrome made another new game. o_o That was really fast. It says on their blog that they made these games a while ago, its just taken a while to release them. It's called dog house, and the dog is just adorable. Basically, you lead the dog to the kitchen by dragging a bone over there. Then you move rooms, stairs, elevators, and make a path for the dog to get there.
Try holding the bone above his head. :) He jumps for it! And while you drag the bone, he sniffs around. I'm on level 15 right now.

I'm working on another photoshop, and trying to pictures of everyone. Meanwhile, I've been listening to Love Story by Taylor Swift, which I found on Lily's playlist.

Hurricane Ike

Well, we had no power for a few days, but now it's back! After the hurricane, a lot of the trees in the parking lot uprooted. The pool is a mess. Otherwise, no too much other damage over here. It was pitch black at night though, so we played cards by candlelight.

I made some paper things just before the hurricane.
Also, Nitrome has a new game called Mallet Mania. Its really hard though. It's kind of like golf, but with a lot more traps and twists.

Also, I found these adorable animations a few weeks ago. They have no text, just pictures and animation. Here are links to them.
There She Is 1
There She Is 2: Cake Dance
There She Is 3: Doki & Nabi
There She Is 4: Paradise

Aether

I found a cute game. Its called Aether and I just love the intro. Anyway, you click and use your tongue to cling to clouds and stars to get into space. Then you follow the colorful firefly looking arrows to go to different planets. Each one has a small mini puzzle to solve.

Link to JayIsGames review:

And I know I haven't been posting a game every Wednesday. I keep forgetting! So I guess now its just once a week or something. :)

Interesting Links

Ok, I've been browsing the web all morning, and I found some interesting links. It's unlikely that you'll check them everyday, but its worth it to take a look.

Instant Origami - A bunch of origami sculptures that are made with speed. The only one I can recognize is the dragon though.

Flying Pizza Kitty - Er...Not really sure what this is, but its very cute.

Distraction Game - At first, it seems like a normal, simple game. But 10 seconds into it, distractions from outside your game screen start distracting and making the simple game more hectic. I love all the distractions.

Cows Go Moo - Why do they do that anyway?

Lost in Translation - Lol! Type something, and it translates it 5 times between languages, and back to english. Interesting results.

Past Life - Enter birthdate and get information on your "past life".

Planet 10 - Build a planet and see if it survives.

Poll Results 2

Ok, poll results!

Windows: 15 votes
Mac: 9 votes
Cell: 0 votes
Other: 0 votes

Ok, seems like Windows and Mac really squashed all the others...
Anyway, new poll up soon!
Oh, and new blog link. :)

Onekey Nitrome Game

Ack, I haven't posted for a while. Anyway, Nitrome made a new game a few days ago called Onekey. Basically, you help this little guy get to the end of the level by pressing the spacebar to trigger stuff. Use it to open gates, make him bounce, float, etc. Very cute. :)

I've been using my tablet these days too. Making a frog on Paint right now.
On Friday, we had art homework, so I went afterschool to pick it up since the drawing wouldnt fit in my binder. The door was locked, so I asked the next-door art teacher, and she said that she was on her shift and would probably be back in in 15 minutes. So I couldn't go back in once leaving the building because the people in the hallway would stop us. Since I carpooled with my friend and she was already outside, I had to go out too and wait. After much freaking out, we decided to sneak into the art hallway through a door a little bit further from the front of the school. And we got in just as my teacher went into her class, and safely retrieved my homework.

School

Hmm. Well, first day of school today! I have some pretty awesome teachers, although I haven't met all of them since we had a blackout and missed our last few periods. And I lost my schedule. I'm going to ask and see if I can get another one. Otherwise, I wrote it down in my agenda, but I prefer the normal schedule. Not much else to say. Need a new book to read?

Otherwise, my tablet is just wonderful! I still can't trace things very well on-screen, but I think I got the hang of using it as a cursor and doodling with it. Corel is so awesome! I never knew it had such an interface with all those different types of brushes. I'll post a screenshot of it later. It even has a palette you can mix colors in! and it follows my stylus nicely and adjusts size well too. :)

Sunday, August 24, 2008

o_o

Wow, school starts tomorrow...
I have a tablet...
I have braces...

Hmm. A lot changed this summer!
Oh well, the first day is always exciting. I'm going to have to change my sleeping schedule drastically though. Ok, my friend said that granola bars have fiber, which give you energy... So maybe I should get some? But which granola bars are ok for braces?

In other news, the Corel Painter Essentials program that came with the tablet is so cool! Having a lot of fun with that. :) Still trying to get used to the stylus, and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.

It just doesn't feel like school is tomorrow though! I hope I have a good schedule and classes with friends. Although, I can't find a school map! I don't know how I'll find my way to homeroom without one.

Things usually dont turn out the way I expect them to, which is sometimes good, sometimes bad. I guess I'll just prepare for tomorrow and wake up early.

Oh, and wash off the nail polish from yesterday from my fingernails. No matter what color, I am not wearing nail polish to school. Unless its clear. I'm keeping it on my toes though, its fun to watch it change color. :)

YAY!

I'm so happy! I got a tablet today! YAY!!
Well, we went to a bunch of stores and stuff, and we found a bunch of tablets. I wanted the $100 one since that was the only one I had enough money for, and the one I planned on getting in the first place. But then my parents said that if I was going to get one I should get a good one. So in the end we got that $300 one that I had wanted from the very beginning, but decided not to get it because it was so expensive. So now I am wonderfully happy! Except I only have 25 minutes to try it out since I'm leaving soon. I am so happy! (I really need a synonym for happy that also means omg-I-got-a-dog happy)

Intuos 6x8~ Yay! The box is beautiful and just the right weight. :D Now I can't wait to OPEN it!

:D Did I mention that I'm really really happy?

Friday, August 22, 2008

I'm Done!

Yay! I'm done with my 4 things! :D

Hint: They're in a box

Nothing else. Fish is perfect for braces.(without bones!) I dont usually like seafood, but this fish was spicy! And I love spicy stuff! :D

Thursday, August 21, 2008

4 Things

I'm making four things for my friends. Maybe three, since I might not have enough time for my own... Anyway, I can't really talk about it since some of those friends read my blog.

Hint: I used glue.

Well, guess that counts out candles and homemade popsicles. :) I think I'm going to give a hint out every day till the weekend. It won't help you much in figuring it out though. Muahaha!

It's taking a while though. @_@

New Link

Hello! Does this work? I just added some html I learned when I was examining blog spaces when I used to play Neopets. :) Basically, I was like, hey! This looks interesting. *copy and edit* :O Thats cool! *implements into memory* So yeah. I'll stop so you wont get dizzy.
Heres a link to the powder game! Im just doing this so you'll have a harder time clicking it. :)

I added a new link to the links list.

Polyvore: A place where you can make a collage of images you upload, or images it already has. It has many different clothing images, so you can make an outfit with it too.

Well, I sent the pictures of the monsters I made and sent them to Nitrome as fan art. Hopefully they'll find it.

Oh, Firefox got updated. The 3D wall Add-On is really cool. o_o
I also went back to DeviantArt and actually posted some stuff. Someone actually commented! Yay!

Oh, and I think I'm going to post an interesting game every Wednesday. If I remember.
So here's the first one!

Coign of Vantage: Very cool. The idea is pretty different too. Basically, a bunch of pixels appear on the screen, and there is a small pixel image on the upper-right corner. You move your mouse which drags the screen around and all the pixels move, and you try to get the pixels to make the image. Its really hard at first, but somehow, you manage to figure it out after maybe 3-4 pictures. The first picture I tried, I was like, "How in the world am I supposed to get through this?". Oh, and you have a limited amount of time to complete as many images as possible. As always, the review explains better than I do.

Review and game here: http://jayisgames.com/archives/2008/08/coign_of_vantage.php
I got 253790 points. @_@ 1313170 more to get on the high scores...

Hmmm. Should I make this "featured game of Wednesday" on the side of my blog? I can't decide. Its always fun to add a new something to the side though. :)

Braces

Well, I got my braces and thankfully that was pain-free, since all they did was glue the braces and wire them and stuff. But my teeth ache everytime I put the slightest amount of pressure on them @_@ So now I have to chop up bread when trying to eat it. I also picked light blue and light green for my braces. :) I hope the achey-ness goes away after a week since I don't know how I'm going to survive school lunch this way. Now I brush my teeth about 5 times a day. @_@

Some letdowns on braces:
  • Acheyness/pain
  • Feel funky
  • No sugary, chewy, sticky, or hard kinda food.
  • No soda
  • I don't care about hard candy, but chocolate will be missed(especially hot chocolate!).
  • Worst of all- No Tapioca!
  • Brush a lot

I think that's it so far. Anyway, I made some grilled cheese today. They taste good. I have to chop em' up with a knife though. Also, I have a sort of idea of what I can eat. If someone can tell me, that would help. Can I eat rice? Chicken? Sandwiches? Salad? Fruit(I know, chopped up apples and corn)? Noodles? Fish? Sweet Fruit? Watermelon? Lemonade? Orange Juice? Ice cream? Right now, I'm eating grilled cheese, rice, yogurt, soup, and noodles. Kind of limited.

What else? I love my new jeans. :) And khaki pants, strangely.

Orange Monster and Comfort

Ok, I'm back from Comfort. That was an awesome trip! I have a bunch of pictures to upload too. Anyway, I need to upload that orange monster. Its been on Flickr, I just didnt have time to get it on my blog.

Click for a bigger image. :)

Ok, a bunch of news. I'm getting braces today. T_T Hope it doesnt hurt too much.
I'm waking up earlier now thanks to Laura and her earlier sleeping time during Comfort.
The thing starts in a week! Must get back-to-thing stuff. Maybe the prices are lower before the thing starts?
I got souvenirs from West Texas! Oh, and some interesting videos and stories to show. Although, Laura will probably write about them too in her blog. The trip involved many animals.
I almost have enough money for a tablet! I just need to make $7 and then I can go get one.

Skywire 2 & Jack Frost Drawings

Yay! I got to level 30 on Skywire 2. :D
Although I really dont like level 30, since his teeth keep on CLOBBERING me. *sigh* Well, now I love Skywire because none of the levels really seem impossible. And it only uses two arrow keys, and has tons of different monsters and bosses for every ten levels.

I'm going to outline those pics I drew... Maybe I'll play Skywire later.

-Edit-

Ok, since this post is small, Im just going to add to it. Here are the pics of the drawings I made of the green and orange monster in Jack Frost. Go to Nitrome and play it if you want to know what the real monster looks like. And you know. Click for a bigger, better image and all that.

Ok, I photoshopped the second image and this is the result.

:)

Drawing

I'm drawing monsters in Jack Frost. :) They're all so cute! I'll post pictures of them later. For some strange reason, I feel like drawing and writing right now. I like drawing, I just don't free draw very much, and so I think I'm going through a draw-random-stuff phase.

Also, powder game has a new feature. Its called loop. Basically, if you use that feature and erase the block border, anything touching one side of the screen will transfer to the other side of the screen... It's sort of hard to explain. Basically, if a fighter runs to the right and to the border, it will come through on the left border. And if powder or an element falls down under the bottom border, it reappears at the top, making a never-ending falling something. Just try it, it will make much more sense once it works. Oh, and fighters and players still die if they touch the bottom or top borderless screen.

Hmm. Nitrome rocks.

Type

A cool link to a bunch of stuff using letters and stuff. My favorites are the "Weight" and "Emotype".

http://www.typorganism.com/ - Click "typorganism" to start.

Hmm. That was a short post.

Also, Google has a different little "picture" every day for the Olympics, if you go there.

Dwarf Fortress

Well, I found this new game called "Dwarf Fortress" which can be downloaded on Windows and Mac. Its a pretty small file size for a very big game. This game has dwarves as its main species. There are two options- you can build a fortress and assign the dwarves jobs or be an adventurer and travel and go on quests. The whole game is made in ascii, which is letters and numbers and symbols.

http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/

Saving the game is slightly complicated. You have to press Esc in game and choose Save Game. Then go to the zip folder you downloaded to load the game and open it. Then open the dwarfort.exe file and extract everything from there. Open the data folder and then open the save folder. Click the region1 folder and copy it to a safe folder. When you want to load a saved game, copy it back to the save folder and play. Don't overwrite files, since it might leave some leftover stuff.

The game has its own Wiki online which is really helpful since the game is huge and its in-game instructions are very long. It took me 2-3 hours to read it all. Its a bit overwhelming at first.

The link below will tell you what you can do in the game, along with its features.
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/features.html

Bought some cute flats yesterday. :)

Ok, Im still learning the game. o_o Once you get through the whole deciding what to bring to the fortress stuff, you have to save to close the game. Dont click abandon fortress or anything because it will delete previous info. Thats what I did, o_o Although, I had back-up since I copied the save file to my other folder...

Olympics Ceremony - Wow~

Whoa. That Olympics ceremony was awesome. It was four hours long, although most of that was the national march. Now I'm going to describe as much as I can remember of what happened. The stadium was built in Beijing and was called the Bird's Nest because of its shape. On the top of the inside, there was a screen that went all the way around the stadium. At the beginning, there were 2,008(Get it?) drummers in this rectangular format. Every time they hit the drum, it would flash, so they made patterns and stuff with that. They also did this countdown using the drums. Many fireworks were used throughout the ceremony. Oh, and most of the commercials were much better than they usually are, which is awesome. There was also this part where this giant scroll unrolled itself and these people painted a picture on this piece of paper in the middle with their bodies. The part that was slightly confusing was that the paper started lifting off the ground and later floated in the air. Of course, we later learned that the scroll was actually a giant LCD screen, although it did unroll itself.

Later, the screen opened and revealed these printing blocks that went up and down and made waves and words. Although it seemed like they were programmed to do so, the tops of the blocks opened and people came out in the end. Obviously, a lot of thought and time went into all this choreography.

Then, the scroll opened up and a giant planet floated from it. Then, the planet would change into Earth, then Mars, then Jupiter. These people on it would run around on it. Remember, this thing is floating in the air. The cool thing was that the gravity looked like it was pulling all the people to the planet, so the people on the bottom were running upside-down, and the ones on the side were running sideways. Right before commercials, these fireworks would set off around Beijing.

There was a lot more stuff, but I'm going to skip to the end. Once the torch was passed to the last person, he was lifted off the ground and ran sideways around on the top of the screen on the rim of the stadium. He made it look like he was actually running on the screen, which was pretty cool. The giant torch was huge and had a giant red ribbon around it. Once he got to the torch(which was amazing), he lit a fuse that went around the torch on the ribbon and then burst into flames at the top. And then, of course, a huge fireworks show ended the ceremony. Among the many fireworks was one that depicted the five rings for the Olympics.

I tried looking for a video of some of the stuff, but I couldnt find any that I liked and would actually show everything well.

Although, I did find some pictures of the pyrotechnics for the Olympics. Some of them show how big the stadium is too. :)
http://www.nbcolympics.com/destinationbeijing/photos/galleryid=183811.html

They spent 450 billion dollars on this ceremony, although it still came out 100 times better than I thought it would be. Also, many people got married today, because 8 is a lucky number and since today is 8/8/08, its kind of like extra good luck.

Also, if you looked at the picture below the ones of the pyrotechnics, (pageantry) I really have no idea where they got those pictures from, since I didn't see them in the ceremony.

You know, here's a pretty good review of it.
http://www.nbcolympics.com/newscenter/news/newsid=184784.html
Oh, and here are some pictures of the costumes.(and more fireworks)
http://www.nbcolympics.com/destinationbeijing/photos/galleryid=162109.html

The whole thing was just really, really stunning.

-Edit-

Ok, I found a video of it all! (The drummers are at the end-ish part)

Olympics

Wow, the Olympics start this Friday! Well, I made a photoshop image because of that. It glows. :)

Oh, *fume*. There's always this slight disappointing process of uploading stuff I make. I would be ready to email it to my friends, and then I remember my blog, and I just HAVE to give them a link. So, I open up a window on blogger. Then, I realize that I need to upload it on Flickr so that when people click it, they can get a bigger image of it. So I open up a tab. After uploading, I've got to change the html, because if I upload directly from my computer, it doesn't give a link. If I upload from a link, it doesnt show the image! So I have to add the html thing to them all(Thank goodness for my HTML phase). I'm at the flickr stage right now.

Haha, I love how Flickr says hello to you in different languages at the frontpage. Thats where I find the words to greet Lily with on im. :P (Now you know, Lily!)

Ok, here is the image:

It looks weird that small, so please click to see it in its original size. :)

Oh, and here's the song I was listening to while making this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FVc-2xNkzQ - Suddenly by Ashley Tisdale

My lack of apostrophes is really bothering me for some weird reason. It usually doesn't, but now I go back and add in all the apostrophes. Aha! Like that "doesn't" word. Hmmm. I must be turning into a punctuation freak.

Anime Face

Ok, I outlined that anime face in photoshop today and colored it. Here it is:

That took me the whole day! It was probably because

a. I used Photoshop 6, an older version
b. I had to taper all the lines with an eraser
c. I switched to youtube to replay a song every 3 minutes

In the end, I played around with everything and made a bunch of versions for it. I'm only putting up two- the original and soft light ones, because its late and there are too many of the others.

Click them for a bigger version. Please?

Some Random Drawings and Lots Of Words

Well, I was just drawing a few things. I made a full-body anime person (though I dont think it turned out very good), a manga head, and two other random doodles.

I drew everything in pencil, so I decided to outline them all in pen. Unfortunately, the pens I use dont work too well with erasers. If I dont wait long enough(longer than usual), the ink will smear. And then, if I try to use an eraser over it, the ink will fade. So, I just decided to just trace it with another sheet of new paper. The only problem was that its kind of hard to trace things in pencil through printer paper. :/

So, I created a handmade lightbox! :D Well, it was sort of a temporary-last-bit-effort. I could just get a nice flat plastic container and a flashlight, except our flashlight ran out of batteries. And all the other mini-light things (book light, book light 2, book light 3) were all used up. And they didnt provide much light anyway. So since we have a big black pane of glass on the table(the glass worked well as more table room) and I had a small-ish lamp on a tabl nearby, I just moved the table to the lamp and stuck the lamp under the table. It actually worked pretty well. Later, I just didnt want to leave my room to outline(It was the source of music!) I got a flimsy plastic container and stuck some shiny aluminum foil under it. That didnt work very well, but after I made my pencil lines darker, I managed to get everything outlined. Except the manga head, which was a bit more complicated than the other 3 pictures, so it was hard to tell all the lines apart. Thats why you see a few pencil marks around it. :)

I also find that its much more fun to work with music on, just like many other people. And the cool thing is that the music doesnt really distract you from whatever your drawing, it actually encourages it. I was listening to these songs while drawing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEafJTTALlQ&feature=user - "Breathe" by Michelle Branch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMBrDYwe6jI - "Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews

I love the chorus on Breathe. Almost everything in the living room is now in my bedroom. Why? The vacuum.

Anyway, here are the pictures. Click them for a bigger version as always. And they look better that way. :)

The anime head I made. It actually turned out better than I thought, except I guess the headband distracts too much. @_@ Its my second original anime face :)

The manga person, which I dont like much. The knees look small and a bunch of stuff doesnt go together naturally. And the shoes. Oh, the horror!

The roasted marshmallow. It actually looks better in the picture with the other surreal picture and itself, which is in my photostream.

The bubble picture. This is one of my favorites because I just love it for some strange reason. :) The lines close to the water might have something to do with it. And the fish's eye. Trust me, this looks much much better if you click it.

Oh phooey. I missed the daily deadline by an hour and 20 minutes. *sigh* I guess that stops my record of daily posts. Unless the time is different on blogger... :)

Tapioca & Manga

Honeydew tapioca is really good. I like it best after the ice melts because otherwise its too sweet.

Well, I've always liked Manga. So I've tried drawing and all, but I'm really bad at it. The only thing I'm ok at are the eyes. So usually, I try it...and then I stop because I keep getting the proportion wrong or something. @_@ And then I go back to it, and so on. So now I started again. I started with the eyes, and I'm "trying" to draw the face. I outlined a few of them in pen. Unfortunately, the ink fades if I erase too much. Anyway, I'm just going to post a picture of what I've drawn so far.

(Will post pictures later- Im still drawing :) )

Some Pictures

Ok, a few pictures to share.

First up, the lollipop-flower drawing I made.

And here is a lace heart I made at Laura's on a hanky.

Some flowers I made on Scribbler. :)

The extra ribbon bookmarks I made.

Click on any of them to get a larger version of it. It looks much better that way, :)

Graphics Tablet

Well, it started with this lollipop-flower I was drawing randomly on a piece of paper. Anyway, after drawing it, I decided that I would try to make it with Adobe Photoshop. Except the swirl on the lollipop section was always lopsided and strange. I've been wanting a tablet for a while now, since its so much easier using a stylus than a cursor when drawing.

So, I'm going to save up some money and try to buy one.

Currently, I'm aiming for one of the Wacom drawing tablets. It's the Intuos3 6x8.

It comes with a grip stylus(with an eraser! No batteries needed!), and has 1204 levels of pressure sensitivity...o_o It also has little touch strips and shortcut keys for changing things and maneuvering... And a 5-button mouse. Now that I've seen the two extra buttons on the side of the mouse, I wonder why no one else has though of it, since most people put their fingers there. It also has a few programs for editing and stuff.

The only problem is that its very expensive... $329. ._. Oof.

But the 4x6 just seems way too small! I hope it doesn't lag too much.
-Edit-
Ok, I researched a bit more, and I think that Ill start with something simpler and cheaper. The Bamboo Fun Small, also by Wacom. The only real big difference is the size and the pressure sensitivity. Compared to the other tablet, this one is much more affordable: $99. It got a 15 5-star rating reviews on Amazon, so it must be a good product! And you can write with this one too. :)

New Poll and More

A new poll is now here. :) I like Mac...yet I like Windows. Its kind of hard to choose between them, :/
Otherwise, I tried uploading a picture of this lace heart hanky we made at Laura's, but thats not working at the moment.

Oh, I just found out that Shannon Hale, her husband, and the illustrator, Nate Hale (not related) made a graphic novel! It's called Rapunzels Revenge, and takes place in the Old West.
More Info here: http://www.squeetus.com/stage/books_rap.html

And amazingly, Nate Hale did all the artwork (sketching, coloring, etc.) for the 140 page novel in 8 months. I wonder how the book will be, since I've never read a graphic novel by novel writers. I think.

Poll Results and Child's Play

Yay! Yay yay yay! JayIsGames posted another IF game! :D
Its called Child's Play (by Stephen Granade), and you can play it online. ^^ According to the review and rating, it seems pretty good (5 stars so far) and the overall story sounds fun. (Type "about" in the game for more info)

Description from the game:

"It is playgroup day and playgroup day is normally a good day, but ever since that little red-haired girl started coming she always wants your toys.

She shouldn't get your toys.

You tried telling the mom this, but she doesn't understand you. She mostly ignored you but then she just shoved a pacifier in your mouth and changed your diaper."

As you can probably tell from the description, you are a baby with very good vocabulary and critical thinking. You are also trying to keep your toys away from that new girl. Im only just starting, so I dont know much about it, but you should get a good idea from the JayIsGames review. Also, you can save and restore your game. Oh, and when that picture of the baby and the fridge magnets appear, just click to continue. You can crawl, you can listen, and you can use your baby tactics. Its easy to tell that this is going to be an amusing piece of IF :) Enjoy~

Now, about the poll. As of now, there are 17 hours until its over. I dont think anyone is going to vote now, so here are the poll results.

Q: Hot Coffee or Hot Chocolate?
Hot Coffee!: 1 (7%)

Hot Chocolate!: 9 (69%)
Blah, neither: 1 (7%)
...I like them cold: 2 (15%)

Hot Chocolate is the majority! I prefer hot chocolate too. Anyway, this will be edited if someone changes or makes a vote. Time for a new poll! (soon)

Small Notes

Only one more day for the poll!

Also, I just read that Shannon Hale is making a fourth book to the Bayern series! :D The other books in the series are going to have different covers for paperback. If you look on her website, you can see them. I like some of the new ones, but I still like the normal ones better. The link is on the side.

And I found the sequel to Once Upon a Marigold, which is Twice Upon a Marigold. Yay! I love that book. Im going to read it as soon as I'm done with this entry.

Interactive Fiction

Ok, I love Interactive Fiction (also called IFiction and IF), so here is a whole post on it. IF is basically a text based story/adventure game. For most IF games, you have to download an IF loader and the actual game. Gargoyle has a nice interface and is good for Windows. For Mac people, Spatterlight will work well, and Glulx for Linux users. Luckily, some are available online, and yet still allow you to save. Lost Pig and 9:05 are such examples.

In IF, you type things for you to do, such as examine chair, open door, dance, say "insert question", and the character will do that, if it is possible and entered in the little database thing. Of course, these commands have to be reasonable and are basic. For example, if there is a locked steel door in your way, you can't just type, "Kick down door with uber Karate skills" and expect it to work. Most likely, you must find a key and unlock the door, unless something insists otherwise. And "find key" will most likely not work unless you know where the key is and have been to that place. You have to look around by opening drawers, looking under stuff, going to other places using compass directions, etc. For a much better in-depth explanation, visit this link.

http://emshort.wordpress.com/how-to-play/

There are many different kinds of stuff in IF. You could just be the traditional knight rescuing damsel-in-distress from evil king, or have completely forgotten why and where you are along with any previous memories (very common), or you could even be the person behind the scenes causing all the traps for an npc (non-player character). You could also make one yourself, except everything is way more complicated in making something than it might seem. Anyway, many of these IF games rely on common sense much of the time. So it might help you get along through the game. Some games have a hint system in the game, so if you type "hint" or "help" then it will provide you with clues on how to continue the story.

Now, if you are looking for a specific kind of IF story, this might help.
http://emshort.wordpress.com/reading-if/

For some IF to start with, I recommend some Zarf IF (check the difficulty), 9:05 (common sense and multiple endings, very short, very interesting twist...) and maybe Enlightenment (fun to play) after you get a bit more familiar with the games. Suveh Nux is really fun too, but might be a bit confusing. Involves a lot of learning and combining magical spell words...

Glass by Emily Short is pretty simple with multiple endings, and relies completely on dialogue. As it is based on Cinderella, the story will help with what to say. Who are you? A parrot.

After playing IF for a while, you'll probably recognise some of the creators of them. If you enjoy some of the games of the same writer, you'll probably enjoy the other ones written by them too. Otherwise, IF isnt for everybody, especially if you're the kind that relies on action and good graphics and animation. I started IF...got bored of it...started again and got addicted to it.

Well, enjoy! :)

Garage Sale

Yay! Nine out of ten of the bookmarks were sold at the Garage Sale at Laura's. :) Lots of labeling and rearranging involved in the preparation though. It was also very hot. Good day for any lemonade stands. Oh, and we sent a crazy e-mail to a few people. :)

Only four more days for the poll! :O Oh, and check out Lily's blog for a word of the day, every day. :) She also has a nice poem a few posts back, so be sure to read it!

Hmmm...I am at a loss for what to do. I really hate sleeping in the day, so thats off. Well, I will post more when I find more.

-Edit-

:D I finished "Square Meal"! All 50! Yay! I just felt kinda bad that I only had level one on it before. The game is kind of easy, its only the last level that gets a lil bit frustrating. Since I have sort of low patience with games, I like it when the characters can move a bit faster than the square monster in that game. The post below has now been updated. :) Ok, my playlist is getting slightly repetitive...anyone have music recommendations? Im going to play another Nitrome game now...

Ok, I got to level 29 in Magneboy... Thats it really. No other things to say at the moment.

Nitrome Game Levels

Spoiler below. (in small text)

Nooo! The snipers are back at level 15! D: I even like the cyber samurais more than them! The reason is because this pink target sign follows you around, and you have to keep moving so that it wont get you. And then you have to find the sniper guy and kill him so that the target will stop following you, except its hard because you dont know where he is, and you have to get past all the shoot-out-green-blobs-of-electricity machines, and try to survive the whole time. And if you dont kill them, eventually, more pink targets come and soon you have 4 of them following you everywhere! Thats because snipers are everywhere. Which is why its always scary to move because you dont know if you stepped onto the sniper's radar. Actually, the guy is using some device to make the target follow you. And this is where the wallsliding gets annoying! If you're dropping next to a wall, it just wallsides and you cant really tell because of the mob of pink targets coming at you, and since wallsliding slows you down, then the targets can easily get you. :/

Oh well, at least its only 5 more levels. Well, I will now name the levels I am at for all the main nitrome games.

  • Final Ninja: Level 15 (out of 20)
  • Mutiny: Level 10 (out of 20)
  • Skywire 2: Level 30 (out of 30) I haven't finished the actual level though :(
  • Small Fry: Level 11 (out of 25)
  • Knuckleheads: Level 13 (out of 25)
  • Cheese Dreams: Level 10 (out of 20)
  • Magneboy: Level 29 (out of 50)
  • Dirk Valentine: Level 14 (out of 24)
  • Aquanaut: Level 4 (out of 20)
  • Jack Frost: Level 40 (out of 40) Done! :D
  • Snow Drift: Level 6 (out of 20)
  • Thin Ice: Level 18 (out of 20) so close!
  • Twang!: Level 7 (out of 25)
  • Pest Control: Level 22 (out of #)
  • Headcase: Level 7 (out of 25)
  • Off the Rails: Level 6 (out of 20)
  • Nanobots: Level #(out of #) (no levels)
  • Yin Yang: Level 2 (out of #)
  • Toxic: Level 8(out of 20)
  • Square Meal: Level 50 (out of 50) Done! :D
  • Hot Air 2: Level 3 (out of a lot)
  • Dangle: Level 2 (out of)
  • Space Hopper: Level 6 (out of 15)
  • Skywire: Level 10 (out of 20)
  • Frost Bite: Level 7 (out of #)
  • Scribble: Level 3(out of #) (Havent played in a while)
  • Tanked Up: Level 2 (out of 8)
  • Feed Me: Level 6 (out of 15)
  • Roly Poly: Level 2 (out of 30)
  • Chick Flick: Level 3 (out of 9)
  • Sandman: Level 4 (out of #)
  • Hot Air: Level 2 (out of 25)
There. If it says, (out of #) it means I dont know how many levels it has in all.

Paper Mache

Today we continued making these paper mache plates and people. The plates are almost done, but theres still a bunch to do for the people. Hmmm... I'm going to make more bookmarks.

Oh! Nitrome made another new game! :D Its called Final Ninja, and it is so awesome! It is a little close to Dirk Valentine, since it has a story, a grapple/chain thing, and you are someone going through missions, sort of. You play as a ninja that has a grapple, can dissapear, throw ninja stars and wallslide. I love this one, and Im a little further than level 12. A few spoilers in the next paragraph. They appear in small text so that you wont read it unless you want to. o_o

Boss Level on level 10 :O. Sometimes the wallsliding thing gets in the way, especially in the levels where you're trying to escape from being a sniper target. Grrr...Level 9 is so hard!

Its one of my favorite games on Nitrome so far, except its kinda hard o_o. Although, it doesnt have as many levels as some of the others, so I guess the difficulty elevates quickly. Nitrome seems to update games way faster than usual now, especially after small fry, which is totally awesome. :D And I think there's a sequel to toxic coming soon...based on the blog preview...I love how you can recognize Nitrome games by their style. :)

Try it!

Jing, DUI, and Some Interesting Articles

I've been browsing around looking at stuff like Vitrite - small stuff that is fun to use (and useful sometimes). Anyway, I found another something that is part screenshot taker and part video recorder. Its called Jing. You can take screenshots with it and even select regions to take pictures of.

It appears as a small sun at the top of the screen, which gives you different options. You can also select a place to record something on the computer. This can be helpful if you want to show a friend how to do something. The cool thing is that it gives you an url to the video or image, so no need to transfer or anything!

And here is the link: http://www.jingproject.com/

Check their blog and FAQ for more info.

What else to say?

Oh, theres this nice game called DUI. Its basically physics, timing, and puzzles all in one. You are a geometric smiley who's aim is to stay above the red line, and stay still on a colored shape- except you must destroy the number of shapes it tells you to at the side. Luckily, you can stay below the red line if you are still moving. Use the arrow keys to roll left and right. If you come as a square, you wont be able to roll unless you are tipping.

Here, this excerpt from a JayIsGames review explains much better.

"DUI, an action puzzler from Chinese developing team S.I.T.T., asks you to guide a sprite to safety by rolling it back and forth with the arrow keys and destroying blocks with the mouse.

To advance to the next level, you must rest the sprite on a colored block and destroy any moving blocks on-screen, as well as fulfilling the removed block quota in the corner of the screen. Usually completing these goals go hand in hand, but keep them in mind.

To add difficulty to the mix, the sprite cannot come to a halt below the red line across the screen. If it does, the level restarts. You can get away with having a portion of it above the line or running the ball below the line-- in fact, some puzzles hinge on doing this."

The graphics are pretty simple, but look nice anyway. And you get to skip levels if you are stuck on one of them. :) Plus, you get to create levels! :D How awesome is that?

Vitrite and Other Unrelated and Unexpected Topics

Well, I already wrote about this on a bunch of emails, but now I realize that posting it would be a lot more easier. Anyway, I found a program called Vitrite that can make any browser and most programs transparent. You can toggle the transparency using the numbers on the keyboard.

Oh no. I just remembered that I forgot to include a link to it in all my emails.

Well, heres one for anyone reading my blog.

Also, my poll has 13 votes on it already! Im so happy! :D Although I wonder who voted in it. There are only a few people who I know read my blog...

And if you haven't already, please read a book by Shannon Hale. Especially the Goose Girl series. My favorite author and series and book all in one! And the covers for the goose girl series are so nice! Now that I think back, all the books in that series have tons of things to wonder about. And there are questionable characters in them all, so you dont know who you want the main character to trust. Some books she's written are in the tags for this post, but it wont let me put too many tags on, so only some are there.

The post used to be called "Vitrite", but with all the other stuff I've typed, I figured it was time for me to make a longer title.

Time to make a list!

Book genres I Like
  • Fantasy
  • Fiction
  • Historical Fiction (sometimes, depends on time period)
  • Drama
  • Realistic Fiction
  • Books with different P.O.V.s
  • Romance (just a bit in a book makes everything much more interesting)
  • Books including school (I like these, even though I dont always like the actual topic)
  • Magic
  • Books in different forms (Some have extra stuff at the beginning or end of a chapter)

Book Genres I Dont Like
  • Classics
  • Books in which most of the story is on a ship
  • Sci-Fi (Havent really read many though)
  • Books in poem form (You just feel less of the characters themselves, and usually not much info about anything in the background)
  • Books on collections of stories (Unless its a collection of complete stories)
  • Survival books in which there are no interaction with other human beings

Thats about it. Ill add more when I find more.
(Oh, awesome! I forgot to use bullets for the list, and I realized that it puts bullets next to each of them if I highlight them all and then click the bullet option. :D)

Book recommendations appreciated :)
